Customisable design with maximum comfort
As the name suggests, our FreeLoo DIY kit is all about DIY - meaning you can create the perfect, tailor made composting toilet to suit your space, budget and design. Our DIY kit size L includes a bamboo toilet seat, our largest containers, and a separator of your choice. This makes sitting on your homemade composting toilet comfortable and stylish.
The high-quality toilet seat measures 43 x 38 x 6 cm (16.9 x 15 x 2.4 in) and is made of sustainably grown bamboo . Combine it with your composting toilet to upgrade your bathroom experience. While other camping toilets may not even have a toilet seat, we’ve got you covered. The bamboo toilet seat makes your FreeLoo as comfortable as a regular toilet.
The seat is made of three layers of bamboo for a smooth and stable finish, it is also varnished to protect the wood and make it easy to clean. The FreeLoo Bamboo DIY kit is the perfect base for if you are looking to create an affordable DIY composting toilet, tailor made to suit your space. Choose the FreeLoo Bamboo DIY kit to benefit from maximum comfort and flexibility - and you won’t have to compromise on design or space.
Separator of your choice
Our FreeLoo Magnet DIY kit is only available with the Classic XL separator already cut to size. The reason for this is the pre-assembled magnets. But with the FreeLoo Bamboo DIY kit, you have the freedom to choose. Our three different separator models help you design and create your individual composting toilet to suit your needs.
The Compact, Classic and Classic XL separators are made of 4 mm (0.2 in) thick ABS plastic, which is both stable and easy to work with. The high-gloss finish repels dirt and is easy to wipe clean. The shape of all three models is adapted to the human body, ensuring that liquid and solid waste are properly separated and collected in the designated containers.
The models are available in both black and white and have the following dimensions:
- Compact separator: 34.5 x 25 x 15 cm (13.6 x 9.8 x 5.9 in)
- Classic separator: 38.5 x 34.5 x 15 cm (15.2 x 13.6 x 5.9 in)
- Classic XL separator: 48 x 48 x 15 cm (18.9 x 18.9 x 5.9 in)
Picking the right separator for your self-built FreeLoo Bamboo
The best separator for your FreeLoo depends on the planned size and use of your toilet as well as on the level of flexibility you prefer when building it.
First things first: The internal dimensions of the urine separators are the same. All three have an opening at the front for urine to go into the urine container inside the toilet. However, please note that only the Classic and Classic XL separators have a second opening at the back to collect the solid waste. The Compact separator doesn’t have a rim at the back so it’s a very good option if you want to use the toilet as a urinal or collect the solids directly in a compost pit.
The Classic separator is well-suited for any project. Its opening for solid waste extends downwards like a tube and ensures that the solids land safely in the bucket and the inside of your FreeLoo doesn’t get dirty. The Classic XL separator has a larger plastic frame that covers the whole seating area of the toilet - making it more hygienic and easy to clean.
Each of the separators come with a sawing template that helps you cut the wood (which will support the separator) to the right size.
The FreeLoo Bamboo L with our largest containers: Your road to independence
The containers for the liquids and solids are both made from recyclable plastic which makes them durable and easy to clean. When designing your composting toilet with our FreeLoo Bamboo DIY kit you get to choose all the details! Use the measurements of the containers to create a design where they fit snugly, and decide how and from where you want to have access to the containers. You can custom make your toilet to perfectly fit your space. Decide if you want to remove the containers from the side or the top when emptying them, build the toilet to fit your space, and design it to stand out or blend in.
The included urine container has a capacity of 9.5 liter (2.5 gal.), is made of recyclable polyethylene and measures 17.3 x 28 x 26.8 cm (6.8 x 11 x 10.6 in). The included solids bucket also has a capacity of 16 liter (4.2 gal.), is made of recyclable polypropylene and measures 37.2 x 24 x 27 cm (14.7 x 9.5 x 10.6 in).
The liquids container can be used around 23 times before needing emptying, and the solids bucket up to 17 times. A composting toilet makes living off grid easier, and you get more freedom on the road. We recommend that you empty the urine container every one to two days, regardless of how full it is. This is to prevent bad smells and odors.
For even more odor control the FreeLoo Bamboo is compatible with our Spillguard Kit. The Spillguard Kit offers splash and leakage protection and also helps to reduce any bad smells.
When planning and building your own toilet, please make sure to leave enough space from the top edge of the separator to the bottom of the urine container, it should be about 40 cm (15.8 in).
