No odors or leakage thanks to the Spillguard
Kit The Spillguard Kit is one of our favorite accessories for your composting toilet. It is made of a polyethylene lid with a silicone ring and the Spillguard Plug, also made of silicone. In combination, the Spillguard Kit ensures that the urine container is sealed airtight. This means that the urine doesn’t come into contact with oxygen as quickly, which slows down the oxidation process, which in turn is responsible for the formation of ammonia (the cause of the typical bad smell). Thus, you are always on the safe side — especially if you travel over rough roads with your camper or van. If you use the Spillguard Kit, there is no risk of urine leakage even if the container is tilted up to 45°.
The lid easily screws on to the liquids container. On the inside, it has a silicone ring that seamlessly closes the gap between the container and the separator. The Spillguard Plug, which is inserted from above, seals the urine outlet of the separator and works just like a bathtub plug. By the way: Our Spillguard Kit is a true Kildwick original as it was designed and developed by us. Even if you use accessories of other manufacturers, it fits all urine containers with a DIN 96 thread as well as all separators with an outlet diameter of 30 to 36 mm (1.2 to 1.4 in).
Conclusion
The Spillguard Kit is a clever accessory in three respects. It reduces the amount of oxygen that flows into the urine container and stops odors from escaping from the urine container. And it offers splash and leakage protection.
The Spillguard Kit fits all our composting toilets except the PiccoLoo (due to its compact design). But we have a solution for that, too: Use the Spillguard Plug on its own without the lid. You can order the plug separately. Furthermore, you can’t use the Spillguard Kit with composting toilets that have a siphon.
Just remove the plug and you are ready to pee. After cleaning the separator with our beetroot ecological cleaner or a mixture of water and vinegar, you can simply put the plug back in. Before emptying the urine container, please unscrew the Spillguard Lid.
The plug’s silicone material is soft, which prevents scratches, streaks or abrasion on the separator. Cleaning the Spillguard Kit is a piece of cake. You can put the plug and the silicone ring, which you can easily remove from the lid, in boiling water for a couple of minutes to disinfect them. Of course, you can also clean all parts with our ecological cleaner or a mixture of water and vinegar.
